SEMI vs SOXX
SOXX holds 30 mostly US-listed chip companies. SEMI holds about 260 worldwide, including Asian and European manufacturers and equipment makers, with caps that limit any single company’s weight. Performance will differ, sometimes a lot, precisely because the indices differ.

What a sector ETF adds — and risks
The largest chip companies are already big positions in any world or US index. A semiconductor ETF is therefore a concentration on top of an exposure you probably already have, in a notoriously cyclical industry. People who use it tend to keep it small and decide in advance how large they will let it grow.
How to buy it from Spain
Tickers vary by exchange: SEC0 on Xetra (EUR), SEME on Borsa Italiana, SEMI on Euronext Amsterdam (in USD) and on the LSE. Always check the ISIN.
As an ETF, it is outside the Spanish tax-free switching regime: selling it to buy something else realises the gain. If that matters to you, the index-fund alternatives are listed on the index page.
Keep it in view with the rest of your money
Sector bets are where "a small position" quietly becomes a large one.
FinBoard connects your banks and brokers and shows this position next to everything else, in one currency, so you see what share of your net worth it really is.

Frequently asked questions
Is SEMI the European version of SOXX?
No. Same issuer, same sector, different index: SEMI is global, broader and capped; SOXX holds 30 mostly US companies. See SOXX from Europe.
