What to do if your bank is missing or the connection keeps failing
Guide contents
1. Why an institution may not be there
Automatic connection depends on the bank exposing a working Open Banking interface, and on that interface being available through our provider. Smaller institutions, some regional banks and certain product types are the usual gaps.
Coverage also moves: institutions get added, and occasionally one temporarily stops responding on the bank's side. The list you see in the connection flow is always the current one — it is worth checking again in a few weeks.
2. How to check it properly
Search by the bank's official name rather than the one you use in conversation, and try the commercial brand too. Some groups appear under a parent name, and some banks publish separate entries for personal and business products.
If two entries look plausible, pick the one that matches where your account actually lives. Choosing the wrong entry is the second most common reason for a connection that authorises fine and then shows no accounts.
3. Meanwhile: manual accounts are not a downgrade
You can add that account by hand and keep it in your consolidated view. For an account with two or three movements a month, the maintenance cost is minimal and your total is correct — which is the whole point.
If it is an account with heavy activity, importing a statement periodically is the pragmatic middle ground: less work than typing, and it keeps the category history usable.
4. A connection that used to work and stopped
This is usually consent expiry, not a bug — see the next guide. Bank authorisations have a limited lifetime by regulation, and when it ends the connection stops refreshing until you renew it.
If you renew and it still fails, tell us which institution it is and what the screen said. Connection problems are almost always specific to one institution, and that detail is what makes them fixable.
