How to connect your bank to FinBoard, step by step

Reading time: 6 min Updated: August 4, 2026

1. What you need before you start

Only two things: access to your bank's online banking (the same one you use normally) and the phone or device where your bank sends its confirmation. Nothing else, and definitely not your password written down anywhere.

It also helps to know which of your accounts you actually want in FinBoard. Most banks let you choose which products to share during the flow, and choosing fewer at first is a perfectly good idea.

2. The connection, screen by screen

You pick your bank from the list inside FinBoard, and from there you are redirected to your bank. You log in there, your bank asks for its usual second factor, and you authorise read access to the accounts you selected.

Then you come back to FinBoard and the accounts appear. If you have ever authorised a payment app from your bank's screen, it is the same mechanism, backed by the same regulation.

  • You choose the bank in FinBoard.
  • You log in and confirm on your bank's own site, never on ours.
  • You authorise read-only access to the accounts you pick.
  • You return to FinBoard and the accounts and balances load.

3. What gets synced

Balances and transactions of the accounts you authorised, plus a window of past movements so you do not start from an empty screen. How far back that window goes is decided by each bank, not by FinBoard.

What never gets synced is the ability to move money. The authorisation is read-only: FinBoard can see your movements and cannot make a transfer, a payment or a change on your account. Not "does not" — cannot.

4. If something goes wrong

The most common issue is an interrupted flow: you closed the tab, the confirmation expired, or the bank timed out. In that case nothing is half-connected — start the connection again from scratch and it will work.

If your accounts connect but one product is missing, check which ones you actually ticked during authorisation. Adding the missing one usually means repeating the flow and selecting it this time.
