What data FinBoard sees (and what we never see)

Reading time: 6 min Updated: August 4, 2026

1. What comes in

The information needed to show you your finances: the accounts you authorised, their balances, and their transactions with the data the bank attaches to each one — date, amount, currency and description.

That description field is worth naming explicitly, because it is real: a transaction concept can say where you shopped or who paid you. It comes in because it is what allows categorisation to work, and it is your data in your account.

2. What never comes in

Your banking credentials, because you never give them to us. Your card PIN or CVV, because the connection has nothing to do with card processing. And any permission to move money, as covered in the previous guide.

Also: accounts you did not select. If you authorised two of your five products, the other three are not visible to us, not hidden from view — they were never shared.

3. Who can see it

Your data is scoped to your account. FinBoard is built so that each user's records are only accessible to that user — enforced at the database level, not only in the interface, which is the part that actually matters.

We do not sell your data and we do not share it with third parties for advertising. The business model is subscriptions, which is the only sentence in a privacy discussion that ever explains the rest of it.

4. Deleting it

You can delete a connection, which stops any further data coming in, and you can delete your account. Revoking at your bank and deleting in FinBoard are two separate actions, and doing both is the complete answer.

The full detail of what we store and for how long is in our privacy policy. If something there is unclear, tell us — an unclear privacy policy is a bug like any other.
