How to create a dynamic CFO Dashboard in Google Sheets

Reading time: 9 min Updated: July 25, 2026

1. Decision-oriented design

Start with the metrics management asks every month: margin, EBITDA, operating cash flow, cash balance and debt aging. Do not add metrics just to fill space.

Each KPI goes in its own card with a traffic-light colour by threshold, and below it the charts that explain it.

2. Key formulas for the dashboard

Use QUERY to aggregate by month and account, SUMIFS to filter by cost centre and category, and ARRAYFORMULA to avoid dragging formulas. References to the data sheet must be relative so the dashboard grows on its own.

  • QUERY for P&L by month and account.
  • SUMIFS with cost-centre and entity filters.
  • GOOGLEFINANCE for exchange rates and prices.

3. The step that changes everything: synchronization

A manual dashboard becomes outdated the day you stop touching it. By syncing QuickBooks with Google Sheets, the dashboard reflects your accounting instantly, with no one depending on anyone.

With FinBoard, your CFO dashboard updates automatically every time an operation is recorded.
