How FinBoard shows your exposure when you mix crypto and traditional assets
Guide contents
1. Distribution by asset type
The asset allocation view groups everything you have connected by type — cash, equities, funds, crypto — and shows each one as a share of your total. No estimate, no model: the actual weights, from the balances that came in from your connections.
That single chart answers the question people usually get wrong by a wide margin. Ask someone what percentage of their money is in their most volatile asset and then check it: the gap between the guess and the number is the reason the view exists.
2. Currency and platform, the exposures people forget
Two concentrations hide from most people. One is currency: a portfolio that is nominally diversified but entirely denominated in one currency carries that currency's fate. The other is platform: everything sitting at one institution or one exchange.
Because FinBoard values everything in a single reference currency and knows which connection each balance came from, both concentrations are visible instead of implicit.
3. What it does not do
It does not tell you whether your allocation is good, it does not predict prices, and it does not recommend buying or selling anything. That is not modesty — a tool that does not know your job, your commitments or your plans has no business making those calls.
What it removes is the excuse of not knowing. The judgement stays yours; the arithmetic stops being an obstacle.
4. A five-minute quarterly routine
Open the allocation view once a quarter and write down three numbers: your weight in your most volatile asset, your weight in cash, and your weight in your largest single platform. Compare them with last quarter.
That is the whole routine, and it catches drift long before it becomes a problem. This is educational content, not financial advice.
